Creative Movement for Crawlers:Created specifically for youngsters newly on the move, this class offers exploration of rhythm, prompted stretching, singing, clapping, assisted standing and encouragement in all sorts of movement. (Classes offered on an "as needed" basis. Please contact Heather for information).
Caretaker & Me Toddler Dance (18 to 30 months):
This creative dance class is designed to improve both fine and gross motor skills as we get your little bouncer stepping, clapping and moving to the rhythm. Shaker eggs, dancing with scarves, and singing popular children's songs are all part of the fun as the little ones explore the many ways their bodies can move! Children should be accompanied by a caretaker who is able to bounce and play along. Creative Dance for Preschoolers:
This gender neutral class focuses on exploration of movement, improving rhythm and coordination, and allowing self expression through the art of dance while having lots of fun! Classes are theme based and begin with a story; movement is then centered around the theme of the day. Parents or caretakers are encouraged to join the class or offer encouragement from the sidelines - whichever best fits the needs of the dancer. A simple piece of choreography is taught over two six week sessions and is showcased in a recital at the end of 13 weeks. Friends and family are invited to attend! |
Creative Dance for ages 5 - 8:This gender neutral class is designed for the student who is ready to participate in class on his or her own. Creative Dance in the Wilder classroom is a precursor to Modern / Contemporary / Lyrical Dance and there is a lot of movement exploration with plenty of time for the dancer to freely express his / herself through the art of dance. Students are also encouraged to bring their favorite music to class for "free dance" periods. What is more fun than dancing to your favorite song? Stretches, dance technique, and learning choreography are all broken up with free dance time and dance games in-between. This makes the whole dance experience a lot of fun while learning.
Modern Expressive Dance for ages 9 - 13:
In this class for the slightly older dancer, we continue to expand upon our Modern / Contemporary / Lyrical technique while keeping our focus on the joy we find in dance. In this age group, we bridge the delicate balance between creating a stress free, accepting dance environment while at the same time, striving to be the best dancers we can be. Once more, free movement is given a framework and dancers are offered guidance in adding dynamic elements to their personal dance style. Students are still encouraged to bring their own music to class for free dance periods. Stretching and strengthening, modern dance technique, freedom of movement and learning choreography are all a part of class. |
